for the most vulnerable in our city: refugee children.

Most have been through traumatic circumstances way beyond their years coming from war-torn areas or povertystricken lands – with their parents fleeing to build a better life here in the U.S. The stress of their past combined with adjusting to a new culture while trying to be successful in school are often too much to handle. That’s why Heart House is a place for moving refugee children from chaos to calm.

We’re a place students can come to study after school and in the summer while their parents are at work. Heart House serves these children with a holistic mental and behavioral health model to increase academic performance, improve mental health and establish a pathway to success in school and in life for each child. This social emotional learning approach helps level the playing field; and our culturally sensitive programming meets kids where they are, customized to their background and current emotional state.

Heart House is now a GuideStar Gold Participant.  The Gold level is given to organizations that commit to GuideStar’s highest standards of transparency and management in the areas of operations, finance, programs results and strategic planning.
